The city of Port Harcourt comes alive this weekend as the third edition of the Garden City Literary Festival kicks off. The event, which is one of the most anticipated literary events in Nigeria, will feature workshops, book readings, book fairs amongst other activities. As expected, scores of writers, publishers, readers and book lovers will be attending this festival.
Perhaps, most exciting about this fair is the guest list; Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Myne Whitman, Bibi Bakare-Yusuf(Cassava Republic), Muhtar Bakare (Farafina), Adaobi Nwaubani, Helon Habila and wait for this…two Nobel laureates, Wole Soyinka and J.M.G Le Clezio! Scheduled to hold at the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt from the 8th to the 11th of December, 2010, the event will also feature the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Odein Ajumogobia reading to children.
Of course, Farafina Books would be a part of the book fair, (we wouldn’t miss it for anything!) so please visit our stand!

***UPDATE! Seems Le Clezio will no longer be able to make it to Nigeria under advise from his doctors (He is ill). However, Soyinka will still be there in full force and is always a good enough reason to go anywhere we think!
